Re-use :  SDMX Central Motto

The concept of re-use is central to SDMX. The "Governance of Commonly Used SDMX Metadata Artefacts" document mentions re-usability as one of the core governance principles of SDMX:

"If new needs for data exchange, be it at national or international level, emerge, existing artefacts should be reused to the largest extent possible".

Central registries have been developed to help implementers discover what artefacts exist. There is one central SDMX registry, called the "SDMX Global Registry". There exists also a series of regional or local registries.

The information stored in the SDMX Global Registry is subject to a strict content policy, meaning that only reliable and conform information can be published.

Precedence should be given to Global DSDs compared to Shared DSDs; similarly, SDMX cross-domain artefacts (e.g. code lists) should have priority on other artefacts.

All information provided in the registries is free of charge.
