Communication in the age of social media: how does communication change in the digital age? Everything is more fluid, distances are getting shorter, the concept of 'privacy' tends to disappear. Even the most traditionalist and conservative people have to reckon with a revolution that began years ago, but that in a certain sense has always been belittled or contained, even when the results were and are evident. Today, social media have changed and revolutionized the way people communicate, in all areas, from politics, to advertising, to interpersonal relationships. So we need to approach this major change in a positive way, trying to capitalize on the power, features and technology that these new media make available to anyone who can manage them well. Nearly 4.2 billion people around the world frequently use social media to share photos and videos, learn about new products and services, and interact with each other and with brands. And this number grows every year, proving that social media is by no means a passing phenomenon.
A right and well-planned social media strategy is therefore inevitably beneficial for any organization that intends to use it.
In this document, a general overview of social media channels (platforms and some overall data) and a summary of the strategy adopted by Istat once it has entered this world of information and digital communication.
