I was wondering if the new version is in progress, and if so, when is it expected to be released, and if there are any important changes that users can expect.

Dear Lori, The team looking at the GSBPM revision has only just been convened. At the moment, there have been no decisions on which changes will be made. The team is collecting feedback from various sources at the moment. In the coming months a request will be sent to statistical offices asking for their feedback and suggestions. The new version of GSBPM is not anticipated until 2018.
