The purpose of this stage is to further detail the high-level description of the project from the project proposal stage:
- The overall project work needs to be split into discreet sub-tasks, with dependencies between each task and indications which tasks can be performed in parallel. This will form the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS);
- The time estimated for completion of each sub-task added to the WBS: this implicitly forms the project roadmap;
- The project team members assigned to each sub-task added to the WBS.
The WBS is a typical part of project management documentation, though for SDMX project special attention should be made to:
- The milestones at the end of each main phase (DESIGN; BUILD; etc.);
- The pilot review(s) start and completion;
- Creation of artefacts in the SDMX registries;
- The "Project end" milestone when the maintenance agreement is operationalised
The WBS may be added to the main "Project proposal" document to centralise the project documentation.
A generic template will be provided in future for a SDMX design project WBS.
