Abstract:

From a language standpoint, Statistics Canada refers to the agency’s standard variables and to the Translation Bureau’s Gender and sexual diversity glossary. The agency’s subject-matter specialists confirm the survey variables behind the terms to ensure that the proper terminology is used in both languages. In some cases, depending on the context, the agency also applies the principles of gender-inclusive writing based on the recommendations of central agencies.
