In this talk we will give an overview of the new and improved features in this latest version.
Methodology for characterization of localities
Ana Maria Santos (Statistics Portugal)
Statistics Portugal published on March 31 a set of indicators on statistical localities based on the results of the XVI General Population Census and VI General Housing Census - Censuses 2021.
Censuses are the only statistical operation that produces statistical indicators for this type of geography.
A statistical locality is a population cluster/settlement with 10 or more residential dwellings that has its own designation/geographical name (regardless of whether it belongs to one or more parishes).
The geographic boundaries and names of the localities were defined by the Municipalities (LAU 1) in an articulation process between Statistics Portugal and the Intermunicipal Entities (Intermunicipal Communities and Metropolitan Areas).
In Portugal, there are 27 446 settlements with their own designation and which meet the requirements for the delimitation of the statistical locality.
In this session, we will present some of the methodological aspects conducted in the definition of this relevant statistical geography for the characterisation and management of the territories by the local authorities.
