This paper, prepared by Jeong-Im Ahn and Young-Ja Hwang (Statistics Korea, Republic of Korea), was presented at the April 2013 meeting of the UNECE expert group on the management of statistical information systems (MSIS).
It describes a pilot project to use media data for an alternative method of producing the Industrial Production Index. Through assessment of this project, Statistics Korea aims to establish a foundation for producing official statistics using Big Data.
