Following the recent announcement of our 2023 European Establishment Statistics Workshop - EESW23 - at Statistics Portugal, in Lisbon, on 20-22 September, 2023, we are now pleased to confirm a day of short courses on 19 September 2023, which will also be held at Statistics Portugal.
There are three short courses on offer, covering a selection of topics of high current relevance to establishment statistics methodologists and practitioners, and delivered by renown international experts in their fields:
New developments in business data collection methodology, by Sally-Anne Aubrey-Smith, Ger Snijkers and Paulo Saraiva
Business network analysis, by Carolina Mattsson
Quality of multisource statistics, by Arnout van Delden and Sander Scholtus

Dear colleagues,
The COVID-19 pandemic has up-ended all our lives in recent months, and brought many immediate challenges to establishment statistics. The onset of the pandemic required abrupt changes in working arrangements for both staff working in official statistics and business survey respondents, requiring reviews of data collection methods. An increased focus on the economic effects of the crisis resulted in the rapid development of new releases and changes to existing ones. After the initial scramble to keep up with the changing environment, establishment statisticians are continuing to develop methods to accommodate to the new ways of living and working.
The Topical Papers section of the ENBES repository contains a selection of working papers that address these issues, including the challenges with measuring economic changes during a recession, and difficulties with measuring inflation in sectors where expenditure has collapsed due to the lockdown. To contribute a paper or report to the repository, email repository@enbes.org. Shorter opinion pieces and comments are also welcome. Please send a file with your observations to the same email address. These will be added to the discussion and may be compiled with others on similar topics.

[ENBES] News, February 2020: EESW21 dates announced
ENBES is proud to announce that next European Establishment Statistics Workshop, EESW21, will be held in The Hague, hosted by Statistics Netherlands, on 14-17 September 2021. Book these dates already now! We will keep you updated with details.

As part of wider exposure of our group and activities, ENBES has an invited paper session "New developments in business statistics methodology" at the RSS Conference in Bournemouth from 7-10 September 2020 dealing with some of the key issues establishment statistics are facing in the 20's.
ENBES is working towards organising a 1½ day workshop on network analysis, again in The Hague, in Autumn 2020. The programme, and a registration form, are expected to be announced soon.

1. EESW19 CfPP
ENBES is announcing Call for Papers and Participation (attached) for EESW19, its 6th European Establishment Statistics Workshop, to be held in Bilbao, the Basque Country, Spain, on 24-27 September 2019.

2. Coordinated sampling workshop
ENBES is inviting methodologists, researchers and practitioners to a one-day workshop on coordinated sampling (invitation attached). In an effort to guide forward the theory and application of coordinated sampling, the workshop will showcase leading NSI approaches as well as give a research overview, followed by a moderated discussion to facilitate identification of common elements and improvement of current best practices. The workshop is held at Statistics Netherlands (CBS) in The Hague on March 1st, 2019.

3. EESW17 proceedings book
On the eve of its 10th year, ENBES is proud to announce that a book of proceedings of its EESW17 workshop has now been published. Including 18 substantially revised workshop papers, the book aims to present to a wider audience a selection of topics currently engaging European business/establishment statistics community.

Dear colleagues,
The sixth European Establishment Statistics Workshop, EESW19, is to be held in Bilbao, the Basque Country, Spain, on 25-27 September 2019. We would like to invite you to plan for participating in the workshop.
A call for papers and participation will be published in December this year, and at the same time we will open a website for registering paper abstracts and requests for participation.
New for this EESW is that on the day before - 24 September - we will offer a number of short courses. Registration for short courses will commence somewhat later than that for the workshop. But, there will be a limited number of places for each, with a maximum of 55 places for the workshop.
EESW19 is kindly hosted by EUSTAT, the statistical office of the Basque Country.
More information about EESW19 will gradually be added on to ENBES's website (www.enbes.org), where also materials from previous EESWs can be found.

Dear ENBES member,
With this message we would like to call your attention to the following two subjects:
ENBES contributes to the Methodology of Longitudinal Studies conference MOLS2
There seems to be potential for greater links between business surveys and longitudinal surveys, and ENBES has taken the opportunity presented by the Methodology of Longitudinal Studies conference MOLS2 https://www.mols2.org.uk/ in Colchester, Essex, UK 25-27 July 2018 to propose some sessions. The organisers found this very helpful, but decided to split up the papers so that there would be more opportunity for interactions between the business surveys and household surveys perspectives. Indeed there are some contributions related to business surveys which did not go through ENBES – see https://www.mols2.org.uk/programme/day1 for the detailed programme. We hope to see some ENBES participants there, and encourage you to participate in linking these branches of statistics.
Proceedings of the EESW17 workshop
The fifth biennial European Establishment Statistics Workshop, EESW17, was held in Southampton, UK, on August 30 - September 1, 2017. The EESW17 program included 35 papers and posters in 12 sessions, with a total of 48 participating business survey methodologists from official statistics, academia and the private sector. The papers are available at https://statswiki.unece.org/display/ENBES/EESW17+Programme. We, at ENBES, aim at bringing into focus knowledge and know-how in the field of business statistics and bringing them closer to the larger public and that is why the Scientific Committee of EESW17 has engaged in working towards an edited proceedings volume with a selection of papers presented at the workshop. The volume is now in its final phase of preparation for publication later in 2018 and we expect to submit it to the publisher by the end of June.
We would be happy to receive your feedback on our current activities and even better your proposals on how you would like ENBES to bring you increased value in your experience in establishment statistics. We think that in-between workshops, our collaboration should be in constant progress and we are currently thinking about the possibility of organising a one-day seminar before EESW19. We are in search of possible relevant topics which may be of interest to a broad spectrum of specialists and methodologists from the academia, national statistical institutes or the private sector. Thus, any idea or suggestion is quite welcome.
