UNECE is developing and testing a survey module on violence against women, as part of a United Nations Development Account project on the eradication of violence against women.

The aim of the module is to enable countries to collect a minimum set of information to measure the prevalence of physical, sexual and intimate partner violence. This initiative emerged from discussions at the joint UNDAW/UNECE/UNSD Expert Group Meeting on Indicators to Measure Violence against Women (Geneva, 8-10 October 2007).

The proposed questionnaire and methodology were discussed at the first UNECE Expert Group Meeting on Measuring Violence against Women (Geneva, 28-30 September 2009).

The module is currently being tested in different countries across the world. The results of the first pilot surveys will be reviewed at the Second UNECE Expert Group Meeting on Measuring Violence against Women (Geneva, 18-19 November 2010).

Once validated by a number of pilot surveys, the module will be recommended as a standard tool for collecting data on the internationally agreed indicators on violence against women.
