Belgium Statistics Flanders data science hub
One of the main strategic pillars of Statistics Flanders is data innovation. A domain that has shown tremendous progress in the last decade is data science. Statistics Flanders looks at leveraging data science techniques in combination with new data source to create new and improve existing official statistics. In order to do this, it is setting up a data science hub.
This hub works on 3 core components:
- Projects: Statistics Flanders is actively identifying data science opportunities to create new or better official statistics. It does this in strong collaboration with different entities of the government.
- Data science education: In order to make sure data science opportunities are identified and leveraged throughout the whole Flemish government, Statistics Flanders is developing a data science course offering. This offering will be a mix of self-organized lecture-style courses and a structured catalogue of existing e-learning resources aimed at all skill levels across a wide range of data science topics.
- Networking: In the Flemish government, but also in its knowledge institutes, industry and abroad, there already exist strong data science capabilities and networks. We actively connect with these networks and establish collaboration and knowledge-sharing opportunities where possible.
