Travelling to the University of Southampton
Participants are requested to make their own travel and h= otel reservations.
Flights:
Southampton has an airport, and if there are direct fligh= ts from your location, this is very easy, with only a 20-minute bus ride to= the University. If you fly to Gatwick there are direct trains every hour t= o Southampton Central (journey time around 2 hours), and if you fly to Heat= hrow then you can get a Railair bus link to Woking, and a train from Woking= to Southampton Central or Southampton Airport Parkway. The latter is easie= r for getting direct to the university =E2=80=93 it is next to the airport = and there is a direct bus link. There are also direct coach services betwee= n Heathrow and the University =E2=80=93 see http://www.nationalexpress.co= m/home.aspx (search for "University of Southampton").
Other London airports are further from Southampton (some = quite far, so be wary), and will involve a trip to central London, travelin= g on the Underground, and taking a train to Southampton. Most train se= rvices run from London Waterloo.
Eurostar:
You can come by Eurostar to London, but will then need to= cross London by the Underground and take a train to Southampton. Most trai= n services run from London Waterloo.
Buses:
Unilink buses run many local routes in Southampton, but t= he key ones are the
U1A which runs from the ce= ntre (Southampton Central railway station and shopping areas) via the Unive= rsity to the airport and Southampton Airport Parkway station; and the
U1C which runs from the ai= rport via the University to the centre.
Especially when traveling from the University, m= ake sure you get on the right one! A single ticket costs =C2=A32, and a day= return =C2=A33-50.
