Type of project The purpose of this project is to create useful visualizations of statistical data from institutions that employ SDMX. A starting point is to reuse the ADOBE FLEX source code already developed by the ECB, kick starting productivity and reducing duplication of effort.
One of the key goals of the project is to collaboratively make improvements to the flex visualizations that may include: improved interoperability with different data sets (real time, calculators output etc...) and improved information support for an expanded user base; and a new channel for interested parties to collaborate and share code with each other and the community (read open CVS); and an improved presentation layer. A more general purpose is to advance the creation, evolution, promotion, and support of this source code while cultivating an ecosystem of complementary products, capabilities, and services. The main and most impressive show case of this product is still (to my knowledge) the inflation dashbord at the ECB web site.

User Community: The Flex-CB libraries are used by several organizations to power Flash-based statistical data visualization tools published on their websites: European Central Bank, Bank of Canada, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, UNIDO - experimental. Sustaining: minimal support and further development are provided by ECB. User contribution needed (currently UNIDO is contributing some documentation and if funds availble could contribute also bug fixing and implementation of new features)

Risks and issues: The main hurdle of the library is the steep learning curve. This steepness is multiplied by the vital dependence of the library on SDMX. On the other hand, the coupling to SDMX is an advantage, demonstrating the power of this standards.
