Brief description and comments

Slides from a presentation given by UNECE's Steven Vale at a workshop on Supporting effective use of information and communication technology in population census operations, organized in Moscow, 16-19 April 2012 by ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific). Full details and other papers from the seminar can be found at http://www.unescap.org/stat/meet/Moscow-Apr2012/

The presentation gives an overview of the rationale for and approach to industrialisation of statistics, explaining in general terms the need for the GSBPM (Generic Statistical Business Process Model) and GSIM (Generic Statistical Information Model). While the workshop was focused on census operations, this specific presentation is not census-specific but is applicable to all members of the statistical production community.
